Designed by Charles & Ray Eames in 1958, this is a replica of model EA 119 high backed aluminium group chair with armrests, a five star chrome base with castors for easy manoeuvrability around your office area, height adjustment and tilt facility, with the one piece seat and back finished in genuine black aniline leather. The Eames auminium chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the twentieth century. It was originally designed for a private residence in Columbus (Indiana, USA), which was built by the architects Eero Saarinen and Alexander Girard in the mid-1950s. For the construction of this chair, Charles and Ray Eames abandoned the principle of the seat shell, instead stretching a panel of fabric or leather between two aluminium side members to create a taut but elastic seat. The chair adapts to the body of the sitter and is exceedingly comfortable. The seat is stitched horizontally to create a series of ribs adding to the distinctive styling. This is an older replica, superior in quality to recent copies made in China. In very good condition, commensurate with age.
